<p></span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">NTSFW member Gerald Warfield attended the <a href="http://www.writersleague.org/programs/swa.html" target="_blank">2009 Summer Writing Retreat</a> in Alpine, Texas, sponsored by the <a href="http://www.writersleague.org/index.html" target="_blank">Texas Writers&#8217; League</a>.  Dealing with the  subject of voice, the class was one week long and taught by Carol Dawson, author  of <em>Body of Knowledge</em> and <em>The Mother-in-Law Diaries</em>.  That&#8217;s Carol, the  dark-haired lady lurking behind the woman in the red sweater.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">The class was terrific, says Gerald.  The  first session alone was worth the trip down there.  One of Carol&#8217;s big  points was that voice itself can serve as the hook for your short story or  novel. </span></div>
