Gerald reads his short story

Gerald Warfield’s short story “Poly Islands” won second prize in the first quarter of the 2011 Writers of the Future Contest. His humorous story “The Origin of Third Person in Paleolithic Epic Poetry” took first place this year in the nationally syndicated Grammar Girl contest. His poetry has appeared in numerous magazines including New Mythes, edited by Scott Barnes. Gerald published fifteen how-to books before turning to fiction. He is a graduate of the 2010 Odyssey Writers Workshop.

On the day Gerald’s poem debuted in the ezine NewMyths.com, He got a call from Writers of the Future informing him that his story, “Poly Islands”, placed 2nd in the Writers of the Future Contest (1st quarter). This story he originally wrote at Odyssey, but honed it with critiques from NTSFW members.

God created Man in his image: what goes around comes around.

BC pressed a fingertip against the porthole and adjusted the sensors within the window. In his quarters, he listened while gruff voices spoke back and forth over the com system.“Pretty hydrogen,” he said, as the spectrum window shaded the element into rich yellow-gold hues. He liked a lot of colors: gold, reds, greens and blues, rainbows of colors. It wasn’t real, especially, the rainbow part. He’d never seen rain, but Meopes had told him about rainbows.read more

Gerald wins contest!

Gerald reads his short story at the Odyssey Fantasy Workshop

NTSFW member Gerald won the National Grammar Day Short Story Contest sponsored by The Grammar Girl for his short story, “The Origin of Point of View in Paleolithic Epic Poetry”.

It begins, “The first story ever told was told in first person. It was told around a campfire by Ogg who raised both his fists into the air and exclaimed in a loud voice: “I killed a mammoth!” Read the whole story.

The Mineral Wells Index reported, “Mignon Fogarty, the New York Times best-selling author who hosts Grammar Girl, said ‘I loved your story; it was clever and made me laugh’.” Mignon Fogarty read the piece in her podcast here.

Gerald nominated for Pushcart Prize

Gerald's short story published

NTSFW member Gerald says his story “And Happiness Everlasting” was nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize by the editor of the Canadian anthology Timelines where his short story was published. The Pushcart Prize - Best of the Small Presses series, published every year since 1976, is the most honored literary project in America.
